Me and my girlfriend had a date planned for today in san francisco (it was going to be an all-day date)... originally planning on the ZOO... but now it's supposed to be "stormy" all day. So change of plans. Any good /fun places to go in san fran that might be indoors? Or just reallyt fun to do while on a rainy day? I was thinking the Exploratorium... but I need more ideas heh. HELP! :)

For a full day of activity, you can try all the indoor attractions in Golden Gate Park:

- Conservatory of Flowers

- DeYoung Museum (American Art)

- California Academy of Sciences (Natural History)

- Beach Chalet

- Park Chalet

In particular, the Academy is a great space. It recently underwent a 300 million dollar renovation. There's a large aquarium, indoor rainforest (with real butterflies and birds), and various exhibits to keep you occupied. The restaurant has also been revamped. Gone are the ubiquitous overcooked hamburgers and hot dogs found in most museum cafes. It now serves contemporary California cuisine.

*_~ So glad that you're considering SF for a travel !

I grow up here, always wanted to leave Bay Area However after my travel for the last 7 years to Seattle, LA, San Diego, LAs VEgas, Florida, New Orlean, HK, China, Japan, Hawaii, Thailand and Europe.. I can tell you that there's no place like the Bay Area!!

I just love the weather and the diverse culture here!! Traffic can be hectic but still bearable. Public transport is great! You can always take Bart, ferries, bus, taxi or cable car etc. However, if you don’t have much time or want to travel beyond the city – I think a car would help a lot. Yes, you have to pay for parking, but save you time to go more places faster..

Embarcadero is wicked nice, and it's not THAT far, so you could really just walk down it to the Ferry Building. On Saturdays they do a nice farmer's market and you can get lots of good stuff. Walk down to Pier 39.

GET THE San Franciso POPOUT Maps—

I loves these POPOUT map- you get to see where you are-

=) No Thinking required, especially on vacation. (look at the picture.)

I have about 20 of these map of different cities.. It was so useful when I was in Europe!

I would recommend the Cliff House Restaraunt and bar at the beach. The view of the ocean on a stormy day from there is great.

A ferry ride on a stormy day, if they are running, can be very exciting.

And believe it or not a walk in Golden Gate Park in the rain is a trip. Especially near Stow Lake. Pier 39 on a rainy day is cool also, fewer people to contend with.

If you have a camera, DON'T miss out on the fantastic photo opportunities to capture some of the BEST pictures of San Francisco and its environs. Drive around looking for some interesting views of the Golden Gate, Marina and it's district, the Oakland/Berkeley skyline, Sausolilto and Tiburon. Take a windbreaker and hat on a ferry ride around the bay and to Angel Island.

San Francisco is one of those towns that are picturesqu, rain or shine. Unfortuantely, not even the natives tend to appreciate this fact. Bring along a picnic lunch and bottles of water and soda pop. Make a day's adventure out of it.

I stay in alameda it relatively is approximately quarter-hour from SF and berkely. i distinctly propose that at an identical time as you're interior the section which you pass to not basically SF yet different components of the bay section besides!!!! Berkely is mostly a exciting place to be and its not a some distance stopover in any respect. one element to do at an identical time as being in Sf although is to pass the place there at the instant are not any vacationers. besides the certainty that we rejoice with them alot, there are soo many different places to have exciting the place the locals are at. The Golden Gate Bridge continues to be marvelous and between the best walks to ever do im helpful, and the ruins of sutro baths are awsome!!! you additionally can pass to the top or Van Ness ave the place there are a number of super pla ces to devour and save for much less costly!!! rejoice with your stay!
