San Francisco is one of the most unique cities in the United States, the weather is generally lovely, cool to warm, but rarely hot. There are plenty of interesting characters in San Francisco, it's a very tolerant city that posesses a very open mind. People just let each other do their own thing. I feel that San Francisco opens the minds of the conservative and the imagination of the liberal. It's full of kind souls. Almost anyone will be glad to help you find your way. The food is amazing, the influence of Asia and Latin America add spice to the culture and cuisine of this wonderful city. There's definitely a homeless problem in San Francisco. Just like any big city you will be asked for money from homeless people who are generally harmless. Many Anericans have this preconception that everyone in San Francisco is gay. While the vast majority of San Francisco is heterosexual, there is a large gay population. Visitors to San Francisco should not be suprised to see two men or two women holding hands. Open displays of affection between people of the same gender is quite common and accepted. Don't come to San Francisco if you are a complete homophobe or hate-monger. This city is one of the world's epicenters for food, wine, performing arts, creativity of every aspect. You'd have to be a total dud to have a bad time in this wonderful cityI highly recommend a visit to San Francisco... Don't call it Frisco!

I've been to San Francisco several times, and agree with the following stereotypes:
- it's pretty
- it's chilly
- there's a wide variety of foods/entertainment
- there's a bunch of history
- there are tons of sites within driving distance
What I don't get, though, is this fascination with San Francisco as THE place to live. If you're heavily into politics (especially of the left variety), I can see its appeal; there is a tremendous liberal presence. If you work in the art fields, it's also prime...and I suppose by location, it's a good place to live if you're in tech.
Outside of that, I can't understand the fascination. I enjoy visiting, but have never found myself saying "I'd really love to live here someday."

There's something for everyone in SF. Museums, nightlife, fine dinning, natural beauty, historic places, great shopping. You'll love it.

Some of the best people in the country. At least some of the craziest.
