Burlingame is a small wealthy bedroom community with 2 downtown areas. Yes, part of Burlingame is mess right now, but the project will be complete by late Summer.

There are many good establishments to eat like Il Fornaio, Blue Line Pizza, The Melt, Broadway Grille, a few Starbucks and a Peets coffee. A couple really good bakeries. There are a couple good bars, but this is a small, wealthy, bedroom community with lots of families.

Shopping. Union Square in SF or Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, CA.

For other resources, you can try www.opentable.com for dining reservations or YELP. The local paper is sfgate.com for general news and info on the SF Bay Area.

Burlingame itself is 30-60 minutes by Car South of SF depending on day, time and traffic. The bay area has almost 10M people living in it now.

I agree with tonalc. There is shopping on Burlingame avenue such as Banana Republic,Apple Store, Books Inc, and some nice restaurants and bars too. They is currently construction on the main street so no driving on it. I think your hotel is east side of Hiway 101? There is a train station at the end of Burlingame avenue which, if you check the caltrain schedule can take you to SF where there is larger selection. OR get on the train ( or drive if you have a car I just dont recommend driving in SF) southbound to PaloAlto and go to Stanford Shopping Center which is quite nice.

One of the best things to see and do in Burlingame is to visit the Burlingame Museum of Pez Memorabilia with one of the best collections of Pez whistles anywhere -- the classic clown, koala, tiger, duck, monkey, frog, donkey, dog, rhino, and Indian. There's also a store where you can purchase Pez items.

It is only a bedroom community for S.F. It is small enough that you should be able to find food and bars and shopping by exploring. That means you walk around the main street and try different places.

I agree with the other two S.F.'ns. It is a short hop on Cal Train or car into the city.

At the risk of sounding snobbish, not much. Go to the city.
