Well you do need to be more specific. But you should read up on the place that you are going and what you will be doing while you are there. Get a book on the area and try to learn the basics of the language. A base in the language really helped me. And don't be scared to ask questions. People are usually more than happy to help you if you are polite and try to speak some of their language.

Depends where you're going.
I'm going to China this afternoon, I had to get innoculations against Hepatitus A and B, Typhoid, Diptheria, etc, etc...
Also it helps if you book flights and hotels.
