I grew up skiing Alpine Meadows and still am partial - they've brought prices down in the last few years too to $41-$49. Sugarbowl used to be a well priced favorite at $46 and it's also the first stop on the way to Tahoe if you're coming from the Bay Area and don't want to stay overnight. Northstar is always fun but not cheap at $63. Squaw is a general favorite but I always felt it was a little TOO much overall. Hard to explain the feeling - maybe I just felt that it was massive and almost overwhelming. Their prices are a bit as such too at $65. Basically you can't go wrong with any of these. Note: I only know North Tahoe ski areas. You'd need to find someone who's familiar with South Shore to share their opinion down there!

Alpine Meadows and Kirkwood. Alpine meadows is like squaw valley yet a sprint smaller with plenty a lot less crowds. It delivers each and every element you want without the difficulty of crowds and is a sprint extra a lot low-cost than the enormous tahoe hotels. Kirkwood receives the most snow in tahoe so in case you want powder it is the inn for you. Kirkwood is my first determination jointly as i bypass to Tahoe.

Lots of good resorts but some of my favorites are Squaw Valley, Northstar at Tahoe, and Heavenly.
